About Bearwoods

The Need

It’s 1999 and I had been looking for property on Whidbey Island for about a year. It has been a favorite destination for some time and after visiting friends on the island decided to look for future retirement / home property.

The Search

I would browse the web listings of lots for sale and pick up flyers on the ferry, but finding a piece of property is pretty difficult. Once you find a description that you like you have to find the physical place and then the property lines. What a headache.
So I researched and found all sorts of online resources for Whidbey Island. There are zoning maps, aerial photographs (color), plot maps and Lidar Imagery topographic maps. These together gave me the tools to evaluate property listings far better before even seeing the property.

The Discovery

One day in June I found one that looked good and set out to walk the property. It was most everything we wanted, nearly 10 acres, high with potential view, price was right and it was forested in the most beautiful trees and shrubs and wildlife. What did we do next? The time line says it all. Pictures of the virgin property can be seen by clicking here.
